LOCATION The village of Smallfield lies on the border of West Sussex and Surrey, falling within the district council of Tandridge. Smallfield as we know it today, didn’t exist until Victorian times however, its neighbouring village of Burstow dates back to the 12th Century. Its name is thought to have originated from ‘smael’ meaning narrow and open.
Smallfield has a range of local amenities including local convenience shops, a pharmacy, doctors, and schools. There are also many sports clubs and golf courses locally. The village itself is around 3 miles from the town of Horley which offers excellent transports links into Central London, Gatwick Airport, and the South coast, as well as many restaurants and leisure facilities. Close by, Harewoods National Trust is full of hidden woodlands, lush green meadows, tranquil ponds and an ancient common which can be easily reached by car in just 5 minutes. A beautiful location to enjoy the countryside and explore easily on foot. In the spring, the woods are filled with colourful wildflowers, with spectacular displays of primroses, wood anemones and bluebells in Hornecourt Wood. Over 100 ponds can be found, ranging from large open ponds to marshes.
