From Trainee to Sales Manager: My Journey into Estate Agency
by Harvey – Sales Manager at Move Revolution
If you’d asked me a few years ago where I’d be now, I probably wouldn’t have guessed “Sales Manager in estate agency” — but looking back, it feels like the perfect fit. My journey here wasn’t exactly planned, but it shows that following your instincts and being open to new challenges can really pay off.
From A-Levels to the big screen.
After finishing A-Levels in Chemistry, Economics, and Maths (Mechanics), I didn’t go straight into property. Instead, I started working at Everyman Cinema in Oxted — and quickly found I loved working with people and solving problems.
Within three years, I’d become one of the youngest managers they’d ever promoted. That time taught me so much about customer service, staying calm under pressure, and making sure every customer had a great experience.
Drawn to property.
Even while I was at the cinema, I’d always had an interest in property. The idea of helping people make big life moves, and the energy of a fast-paced environment, really appealed to me — especially as someone who loves bouldering, climbing and padel.
When I spotted an opportunity at Move Revolution, I decided to go for it — and it turned out to be the best decision I could have made.
Learning by doing, with real support.
When I joined as a trainee, I didn’t walk in with all the answers — but what mattered was being willing to learn. At Move Revolution, training isn’t about sitting in a classroom; it’s about structured, on-the-job learning: watching experienced colleagues, asking questions, and getting regular feedback to keep improving. I discovered what great customer service really looks like in practice — and how to build trust with clients at every step.
Values that mean something.
At Move Revolution, our values aren’t just for show. They genuinely shape how we work, and they’re why I enjoy coming to work every day:
Trust: Being honest, I know how much our clients value our open and honest approach, especially with price related and viewing feedback.
Service: Putting yourself in the client’s shoes, and always going the extra mile.
Expertise: Staying curious and never thinking you know it all.
Passion: Letting your enthusiasm show.
Impact: Remembering that what we do can really change someone’s life.
What being Sales Manager means to me.
My role as Sales Manager is about taking responsibility for my work, helping clients through what can be a stressful process, and living out our values day-to-day. It’s also about being part of a team where everyone has each other’s backs and genuinely wants to do a great job. And because we’re employee-owned, it really feels like we’re building something together.
Why I love it.
Property isn’t always smooth sailing — but seeing a client get the keys to their new home makes it all worth it. It’s that same buzz I get from climbing or football but channelled into helping people at a really important moment in their lives.
