Bluebell Walks in Surrey & Sussex

Spring has finally sprung, bringing along the magical Bluebell season, adding a touch of magic to the surroundings! These beautiful flowers are currently blooming in full splendour, offering the perfect opportunity to witness their beauty before they shed their petals. Bluebells, adored by fairies, signal that spring is here in all its glory. Picture-perfect violet carpets of bluebells make for a jaw-dropping sight in the woods. These mystical flowers, usually hidden as bulbs underground, emerge like clockwork in April, often forming charming clusters. Typically deep violet-blue in colour, these bell-shaped flowers boast six petals with upturned tips. Indigenous to western Europe, bluebells thrive in the UK, where they are most abundant. They are closely linked with ancient woodlands and are used as a key indicator of woodland age when combined with other species.

Below are a few Bluebell walks for you to choose from…

Standen House and Garden, East Grinstead

Approximately 20 out of the original 100 acres of the Standen Estate are expected to be a spectacular sight of bluebells this spring, particularly in Rockinghill and Hollybush woods. Look out for purple orchids blooming in Hollybush, adding to the enchanting atmosphere, while tulips may also be in full bloom around the house and gardens. You can take a stroll from Standen to the Bluebell Railway at Kingscote Station. Standen House is an Arts and Crafts family residence featuring interiors designed by Morris & Co.
